It’s a wintry weekend on the Amalfi Coast with snow dusting the tops of the Lattari Mountains. After an early morning walk to spot what snow I could see from Amalfi, I’m currently wrapped up in a cozy fleece hoodie I bought last summer at the highest distillery in Scotland while my cat Puffy looks on a bit peeved since I’ve replaced his spot on my lap with my computer. But, it’s for good cause. I’m writing to let you know that I’ve just launched a brand new addition to my Substack publication: the Ciao Amalfi subscriber chat.
Substack’s new chat feature is a conversation space that brings together the best of social media without all the distractions of ads and angst. At least, I anticipate an exceedingly low level of angst when it comes to chatting about the Amalfi Coast. With all the noise of social media, it’s a place where we can have a group chat and connect. And where I won’t get lost in the labyrinth of layers in Instagram DMs. (Why is there a Primary and a General … it’s social media not an election!)
To join in the chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. After the first email you may have received earlier, all future chats will be sent via the app, not email. While you can turn on notifications in the Substack app, I just finished reading Stolen Focus: Why You Can’t Pay Attention—and How to Think Deeply Again by Johann Hari so I won’t suggest you turn them on. Think of the chats as little conversations you can dip into - if and when it’s good for you. I’ll be sharing a bit more behind the scenes of what I’m reading and researching, interesting links, and (of course) plenty of photos from the Amalfi Coast.
If you’d like to join in, below are a few tips to get started. Hope to see you over in the chat!
Ciao from Amalfi,
Laura
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside. (Along with chats from any other Substack you’re subscribed to.)
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say ciao, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
